Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology
The objective of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology (HVAC/R) program is to provide students with a broad base of knowledge and skills for employment as entry-level technicians in the HVAC/R industry. Students are taught various aspects of the field, from refrigeration fundamentals to direct digital control and energy management systems. The program prepares students to gain industry certifications in several areas, which can be beneficial in the employment market. Some of the technician certifications offered include Universal EPA 608 Universal Technical Certification, R-410A Safety, OSHA Safety, Green Mechanical Systems and North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certifications. This training program will conclude with an externship off campus or with the completion of a capstone project on campus.
HVAC/R program is approved by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries as a 06A HVAC/R Specialty Electrical Training program. Graduates may be credited with up to one year (or 2,000 hours) towards the two years (or 4,000 hours) required by the State of Washington to be eligible to take the certification exam for the 06A HVAC/R Specialty Electrical License.
The HVAC/R Technology program is 24 months in length (eight quarters). The student will earn 169 credit hours, which are 2,872 clock hours.
The student to instructor ratio for the HVAC/R program is no greater than 24:1.
