Medical Office Administration & Coding Program

Perry Technical Institute’s Medical Office Administration & Coding program offers comprehensive training in traditional office skills, interpersonal skills, and specialized medical office billing and coding procedures. The objective of the program is to equip students with the skills and knowledge for entry-level administrative and coding positions in healthcare settings.

The program begins with instruction in keyboarding and 10-key proficiency, Microsoft Office applications, and email communication to develop foundational computer and administrative skills. Students also learn workplace skills such as communication, customer service, and career planning to support professional development. Additionally, the curriculum includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, human diseases, and medical office procedures. Instruction in diagnostic and procedural coding, covering both basic and advanced techniques, prepares students for medical billing and coding tasks.

The program is a hybrid format that combines both in-person and online learning experiences. Students are required to attend classes on campus while completing other coursework online or remotely. On-campus sessions take place three days a week with each session lasting four hours. The program concludes with an externship at a healthcare organization or an on-campus capstone project, allowing students to apply their knowledge in practical settings.

Graduates are prepared to take the AAPC’s Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam, a recognized industry certification.

The program prepares graduates for entry-level positions in the healthcare field. Career paths include medical office assistant, medical coder, receptionist, reimbursement specialist, and other administrative roles in medical offices, hospitals, and healthcare organizations. By completing this program, students gain the skills and knowledge to work in administrative roles within the healthcare industry.

The Medical Office Administration & Coding program is 12 months in length (four quarters) with a student-to-teacher ratio of 15:1. Tuition is payable on a quarterly basis. There are four quarters in an academic year. The students will earn 77 credit hours which are 1,344 clock hours.
