This course introduces students to the trucking and transportation industry. Classroom instruction will prepare students to sit for the Department of Licensing Knowledge exams. Classroom instruction will follow subjects in the Washington State Commercial Drivers Guide.

This course covers the importance of pre-trip inspections, coupling and uncoupling trailers, air and electrical connections, axel locations, handling and documentation of cargo, trip planning, and severe weather conditions. Upon completion, the student will be able to perform pre-trip inspections in a regular systematic sequence that are accurate, uniform, and time efficient.

This course covers guided instruction and practice on straight line backing, offset backing, and alley dock (90 degree) backing.

This course covers guided instruction and practice on the proper techniques to operate a commercial vehicle on public roadways. During this course students will learn about transmission controls, double clutching, and road safety as it relates to operating a commercial vehicle.

This course allows students additional instruction and practice time to prepare for the state skills test. Topics covered will be pre-trip inspections, basic controls test (backing maneuvers), and road test.
